The 8th Annual Bay Ridge Marlins Swimathon was
another success, raising over $20,000 for pediatric cancer research at Johns Hopkins. Over 130
swimmers swam 24,800 laps (401 miles) in 24 hours from
Saturday, July 18th to Sunday, the 19th. We couldn't have done it without the swimmers from the Bay Ridge Marlins,
the parents and the Arundel Breakfast Club master swimmers.
Special thanks to Capital Bicycle, the Atom Bumz and the Vincent
DiBerardinis Foundation. Click here for individual
accomplishments. Thanks to everyone who participated to make
this another great event!
In the past eight years, the Bay Ridge Marlins have
combined with the Arundel Breakfast Club swimmers to raise over
$220,000 for the Johns Hopkins Pediatric
Oncology Friends (POF), a volunteer organization that raises funds
for research to cure childhood cancer. All money raised by the event
will directly support the research at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive
Care Center at Johns Hopkins, where a 12-year-old swimmer Susie has
finished undergoing 130 long weeks of treatment. Susie’s cancer is in
full remission, but the annual event has become an important part of the
team’s summer experience. The event has captured the imagination
of many local Annapolis businesses that have committed to donating food
for the hungry swimmers. Click
