The 9th Annual Bay Ridge Marlins Swimathon will be held
Saturday, July 17th, 2010 starting at 1PM and will continue
non-stop for 24 hours. Print out a
pledge sheet here.
All swimmers must sign a
release
before participating. All money raised by the event will
directly support the research at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive
Care Center at Johns Hopkins, where a 13-year-old swimmer,
Susie, underwent 130 long weeks of treatment for leukemia.
Susie’s cancer is in full remission, but the annual event has
become an important part of the team’s summer experience. The
event has captured the imagination of many local Annapolis
businesses that have committed to donating food for the hungry
swimmers. Click
here for the rules for the swimathon.
This year, State Senator John Astle will kick things off and
the Atom Bumz will play
from 2 to 4PM. Plenty of food and entertainment will be
provided. Once again, the Arundel Breakfast Club will provide
round the clock swimmers.
Last year, we raised over $20,000 for pediatric cancer
research at Johns Hopkins. Over 130 swimmers swam 24,800 laps
(401 miles) in 24 hours. Let's see if we can do even better this
year.
