The 10th Annual Bay Ridge Marlins Swimathon was held
Saturday, July 16th, 2011. This year, we raised over $16,500 for pediatric cancer
research at Johns Hopkins. Over 120 swimmers swam 21,800 laps (364 miles)
in 24 hours.
All money raised by the event will
directly support the research at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive
Cancer Center Pediatric Oncology at Johns Hopkins, where a 14-year-old swimmer,
Susie, underwent 130 long weeks of treatment for leukemia.
Susie’s cancer is in full remission, but the annual event has
become an important part of the team’s summer experience. The
event has captured the imagination of many local Annapolis
businesses, including Capital Bicycle, Papa Johns and Grumps
Cafe that have committed to donating food for the hungry
swimmers.
We want to thank the Arundel Breakfast Club for providing
round the clock swimmers and Lew Bobbit's band for another great performance.
